Squat Delays

30 August 2015

Didn't work out for 3 days, went to a friend's farm to help out with some stuff, mostly brute manual labor. Got to drive a tractor and operate the front scoop thingy, which was a lot of fun, and I managed to not kill/maim anyone or inflict damage upon immobile objects. Good times.

Squat 135x5, 225x3, 275x3, 315x5, 355x5, 400 (3+) x 7 reps

Joker sets 420x3, 430x3, 440x3 - quite pleased with this.

Mid-shin block pull 380 lbs. x 6 singles

Pretty easy, but had to use straps despite the low weight because my grip was toast.

Leg raise 3s x 10

isn't killing/maiming the main purpose of manual labor?

doing 7 reps on 400 lbs while I am struggling to get a single at that very sam weight is just not good taste. but well done. :)

Killing and maiming of the self, usually not of others? But I see your point.

Thanks, the way my squatting has been going I'm sure we'll eventually end up at the same number.

Tractors are so badass and versatile. I want a house with land just so that I can own one.

I actually almost killed/maimed myself with a tractor last Wednesday. I plan to write about it soon. What kind of farm was it and what tasks did you do? Also, if you had to perform farm/manual labor on a daily basis how do you think it would effect your training?

Friends don't do much farming per se (as in to generate revenue), mostly maintenance of the house and grounds (they bought it and moved in pretty recently) and they have a field where they'll grow some stuff. What we did over the weekend was hauling these huge chunks of trees and stumps into a wood splitter, moving and stacking chopped wood, a bit of digging and hand tilling.

As for how it would affect my training, it's kinda weird. After the work was done, I felt more exhausted and tired than I have in years and was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get out of bed the next morning. But the next day I woke up feeling fine, not sore at all, and my squatting ability was not impaired. Pulls were a bit tough.

If I had to do this on a daily basis, I'd probably have to dial down the squats and pulls, maybe do them once per week on alternating weeks.
